Pete Horrocks, Chair of Community Pharmacy Tees Valley, attended the Forum of LPC Chairs this month, bringing together leaders from across England to discuss the future direction of community pharmacy and its role within the wider NHS.
The event was hosted by Labour MP and pharmacist Sadik Al-Hassan, providing an excellent opportunity for LPC leaders to engage directly with policymakers and sector stakeholders at a crucial time for pharmacy.
A key highlight of the forum was an address from Pharmacy Minister Stephen Kinnock, who shared his perspectives on the reforms and transformation underway across the healthcare system. Delegates heard how community pharmacy is expected to play an increasingly important role in delivering patient care as part of the NHS 10-Year Plan, with a greater emphasis on prevention, accessibility, and care closer to home.
The discussions focused on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector, including workforce development, service expansion, integration with primary care, and ensuring that community pharmacies are equipped to meet growing patient demand.
Commenting on the event, Pete Horrocks said:
“It was extremely valuable to join fellow LPC Chairs from across the country and hear directly from the Pharmacy Minister about the government’s vision for the future of community pharmacy. The message was clear that pharmacy has a central role to play in the delivery of the NHS 10-Year Plan and in supporting patients within their local communities.”
“The forum provided an important opportunity to share experiences, discuss common challenges, and explore how LPCs can continue to support contractors in delivering high-quality services. I was encouraged by the recognition of the contribution community pharmacy makes to the NHS and the commitment to placing pharmacy at the heart of future healthcare reform.”
Community Pharmacy Tees Valley will continue to engage with national and regional partners to ensure the voice of local pharmacy contractors is represented as these reforms develop and new opportunities emerge for the sector.
