DPP+

Please see details of the DPP+ Programme below as requested:
The DPP+ Programme has been created to increase capacity of DPPs in Community Pharmacy and provide a diverse, motivational and inspirational level of education, training and experience for the Foundation Trainee Pharmacists. The majority of the 90 hours (minimum) of supervised provision will consist of direct, one to one, patient facing supervision and mentoring from one of our Community Pharmacist DPPs in a clinical prescribing learning setting in Community Pharmacy, including final sign-off of the prescribing element of the training year. This will be supplemented by six full-day Foundation Trainee Pharmacist Independent Prescribing Group Sessions, enabling the trainees to learn from each other as well as with each other, thus reducing the risk of professional isolation. We will be encouraging and nurturing this community of learning to provide ongoing support as they move through their careers. A variety of eminent speakers will support trainee learning during the Group Sessions, including a Consultant Paediatrician who will cover prescribing in children’s minor Illness, and also the Medical Director of CLEO Systems, who will cover Managing Uncertainty when prescribing in Community Pharmacy. The trainees will also spend a day participating in INR clinics. We believe that this unique hybrid approach will enrich the trainee experience, leaving them competent and confident to start their journey as qualified independent prescribers at the point of first registration. The investment required for the programme, including prescribing sign-off, is £2,000 per trainee. Several Community Pharmacies sent their Foundation Trainee Pharmacists to participate in the Group Sessions only, at a reduced cost. Even though they had access to a DPP in house, they still valued the extra assurance and greater depth of prescribing training that the Group Sessions provided. Access to the Group Sessions is available at £900 per trainee.
Sandie, I put the above into AI to summarise into bullet points and this is what it gave me below:
  • DPP+ Programme purpose: built to increase DPP capacity in Community Pharmacy and give Foundation Trainee Pharmacists a broad, motivating, and high-quality prescribing education experience.
  • Core supervised learning: at least 90 hours of supervised provision, mostly through direct 1:1 patient-facing supervision and mentoring from Community Pharmacist DPPs in a clinical prescribing learning setting.
  • Prescribing sign-off included: the programme includes final sign-off of the prescribing element of the training year.
  • Group learning element: trainees also attend six full-day Independent Prescribing Group Sessions.
  • Why the group sessions matter: these sessions help trainees learn with and from each other and reduce the risk of professional isolation.
  • Longer-term aim: the programme aims to build a community of learning and ongoing career support.
  • Specialist teaching: sessions include input from expert speakers, such as:
    • Consultant Paediatrician on prescribing for children’s minor illness
    • the Medical Director of CLEO Systems on managing uncertainty when prescribing in Community Pharmacy
  • Additional practical exposure: trainees also spend a day in INR clinics.
  • Overall value proposition: the programme is presented as a unique hybrid model designed to leave trainees competent and confident as they begin practice as independent prescribers at first registration.
  • Full programme cost: £2,000 per trainee, including prescribing sign-off.
  • Group Sessions-only option: available for pharmacies that already have an in-house DPP but want extra assurance and deeper prescribing training.
  • Group Sessions-only cost: £900 per trainee.
